Healthy Fall Apple Pie Popcorn

Movie nights in fall and winter are the best, sitting near the fireplace while it is dark outside, wearing fluffy socks and warm pyjamas, wrapped up under a warm blanket, but what is a movie night without POPCORN! This popcorn recipe will make you movie nights even more of a fall activity.

Lately I have been obsessed with popcorn, I love eating it plain or on top of my Nana Nice Cream (Yes I know, everything is good with Nana Nice Cream!) As much as I love the regular popcorn without any spices or toppings, sometimes adding a bit of flavour makes eating popcorn a bit more exciting.

Ingredients:

  • 1 -1 1/2 tbsp unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/4 cups unpopped popcorn
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 apple

Directions:

Start by making your popcorn. In a pan add the 1/4 cup of popcorn. I like to cook without oil, so I just keep shaking the pan so the popcorn won’t burn. When all the corn is popped take the pan of the fire and let it cool down.

Now take 2 cups of popped popcorn and put it in a mixing bowl. Add 1 – 1 1/2 tbsp of unsweetened applesauce and with your hands mix in the applesauce. Now cut up 1/4 apple into very small cubes and mix it in with the popcorn and a bit of cinnamon (about 1/4 teaspoon).

Because of the applesauce the popcorn loses it’s crunchy texture a bit, if you like it like this you can just leave it. If you want it to be a little more crunchy, put the popcorn BEFORE adding in the apple cubes in a 175 °C oven for about 5-8 minutes. You can also leave out the applesauce if you prefer that.
